It’s a well-known fact that the FBI is a powerful force to be reckoned with as portrayed by the media and movies. They are there to give aid to other law enforcement agencies when needed as seen in the episode of “Extreme Aggressor” in the Netflix show, “Criminal Minds”. In the first couple of minutes of the episode, it is shown that a kidnapping has occurred and that a group of FBI agents has been called to immediately solve the case. The episode portrays/enforces the message that the FBI are people not to be messed with and that they will always protect people, and solve the crime at the end of the day.

Once they start working on the case, they often get into conversations with an agent named “Reid”. Reid is part of the group working to solve the case and is shown to be a genius regarding that he’s always thinking and knows the exact terms of what people are thinking of. Another example of him showcasing his smarts is when they were to try and guess a password of a laptop that they needed when everyone else was stumped. After rummaging through the house, he finally finds what he needed to guess the password and was able to help pinpoint the location of the kidnapped woman.

As the case continues, we get more insight into another agent named, “Jason Gideon”. Jason Gideon was considered to be one of the best FBI agents, extremely experienced in solving multiple crimes, and is really perceptive. He shows his feats throughout the story by portraying his knowledge on what’s going through the suspect’s head, he’s able to give a description of what he probably looks like, and also tries to think why they act that way. Another way of him being really perceptive is when he was able to find out who’s the main suspect based on body language and other various clues they were able to reveal his identity.

Now that the suspect’s identity is revealed and that the FBI knows the location of the kidnapped women, it’s a race to see who can get to her first. The suspect is shown to get to her first and agent Gideon and his partner arrive a couple of minutes after the suspect. When Gideon and the suspect confront each other, the suspect takes the kidnapped woman as a hostage and starts talking to Gideon. Gideon then begins to provoke him by insulting him as a plan for him to take his attention away from the hostage so that his partner can shoot him. As a result, Gideon ends up taking a bullet and his partner takes down the suspect. In the end, Gideon is fine and is happy that they were able to save the woman at the expense of him getting injured. This shows that he’s willing to trade his life for someone else’s if the situation calls for.

In all, the episode of Criminal Minds, “Extreme Aggressor” enforces the message that the FBI are people not to be messed with and that they will always protect people, and solve the crime at the end of the day. The message is enforced through the actions/traits of the FBI agents that were involved in this case. You can also say that this piece of media can also be used as deterrence of crime to prevent people from committing major crimes.
